January 6, 1946 – May 11, 2022
Pam McNeel, 76, peacefully passed away on May 11, 2022, after a brave battle with Bulbar Onset ALS.
Born to Jean (Smith) and Wilbur Sullenger on January 6, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri, Pam grew up in Gallatin, Missouri. She attended Gallatin High School, where she played flute in the band and participated in numerous activities. After graduating high school, Pam attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri, and received a bachelor’s degree in Education. She later received her master’s degree in Childhood Counseling.
Pam had a long career in education, primarily teaching third grade for over 40 years. Teaching gave Pam an immense sense of pride and satisfaction, and she valued her relationships with the students, their parents, and all the teachers, principals, and other colleagues with whom she worked. Pam spent most of her career teaching in the Shawnee Mission and Blue Valley School Districts in Overland Park, Kansas. She continued as a substitute teacher in Bradenton, Florida after moving there in 2011, where she remained close to her beloved beach until moving to Midland, Texas to be near family as her symptoms of ALS progressed. Pam confronted the unfortunate diagnosis and difficult effects of ALS with no trace of self-pity or complaint, and she fought bravely through every step of the disease.
Pam’s passion was traveling, especially with family and/or friends. But she would accept an invitation from anyone for a trip to anywhere, and she loved getting out of town to see something new, or as in later life, returning to special places. Pam was able to see the world and relished all the sights and wonderful people with whom she traveled and met along the way.
Pam is survived by her son, Ryan McNeel of Midland, Texas, and his wife Jennifer and sons Brock and Hudson. She is also survived by her brother John Sullenger of Gallatin, Missouri, and his wife Mary and daughters Amy and Kara and their families.
At Pam’s direction, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the ALS Association, or your favorite educational charity.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com.
