George Alvin White, 81, of Fort Collins, Colorado formerly of Big Spring passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022. Interment will be at 9:00 am on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Trinity Memorial Park. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 am at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
He was born March 26, 1941 in Big Spring, Texas. George graduated from Forsan High School in 1959 and attended Howard College, where he received a scholarship to play basketball. He finished his education at Howard Payne University. He taught and coached at Sterling City High school for 7 years, then returned to Forsan where he remained until his retirement in 1999. During those last few years, he worked part-time at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. He then went to mortuary school full-time and returned to work for NPW until 2010. At Forsan, he taught, coached football, basketball and track, was MS principal, HS principal and ended his career as Superintendent of Schools. He also worked with Wiley’s and Martin’s Funeral homes in Granbury until 2020.
George joined The Marine Corps in 1962 and attended Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. He received an Honorable Discharge due to an injury.
He became a Deacon in the Baptist church at Avenue D Baptist Church in Brownwood, and also served at FBC Sterling City, Forsan Baptist and First Baptist Granbury. In Granbury, George became a member of Gideons International and a member of the Granbury Optimist Club.
George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Brenda (Morgan) White, formerly of Granbury and currently living in Fort Collins, CO. and one daughter, Teresa and her husband, Paul Nornes (Fort Collins,CO), and granddaughters Katherine (Highlands Ranch CO) and Laura (Denver, CO.) Brother, Arlen & Dolores White of San Angelo; nephew Kurt White (Kim) of Cleburne; Robert (Shelley) of Krum; and niece Terrye White Smith (Rick) of Big Spring.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Jewel White and his mother, Elouise White McRae.

George was a great friend and a man of great faith! I remember the first time I met him. He encouraged me and paved the way for me to become a funeral director and embalmer. He put in a good word for me at Wiley Funeral Home when I was still in high school. I like to say that George White is where it all began for me. So very sad to hear that Coach White is gone. He was a wonderful principal. I was fortunate enough to have him as principal from 6th grade through 12th grade! He was really kind and understanding with what was happening in my home life and made it easier for me going to school. Then I was lucky enough to encounter him in his other career at a Nalley, Pickle and Welch. When my husband’s aunt passed away I was shocked to see Coach working there, but his presence brought ease as I felt my father was soon to pass as well. I even said this to him. He grabbed me gave me a big hug and said well I’ll be right there with you and your family the whole way. Twelve days later he was. He sat down with my family and trusting that he would do what was right and that my Dad was being taken care of by him made things easier for me. He was a good man who worked hard to educate, and serve others. I will never forget him. My deepest sympathies and condolences for his wonderful family.
