George Alvin White, 81, of Fort Collins, Colorado formerly of Big Spring passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022. Interment will be at 9:00 am on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Trinity Memorial Park. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 am at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
He was born March 26, 1941 in Big Spring, Texas. George graduated from Forsan High School in 1959 and attended Howard College, where he received a scholarship to play basketball. He finished his education at Howard Payne University. He taught and coached at Sterling City High school for 7 years, then returned to Forsan where he remained until his retirement in 1999. During those last few years, he worked part-time at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. He then went to mortuary school full-time and returned to work for NPW until 2010. At Forsan, he taught, coached football, basketball and track, was MS principal, HS principal and ended his career as Superintendent of Schools. He also worked with Wiley’s and Martin’s Funeral homes in Granbury until 2020.
George joined The Marine Corps in 1962 and attended Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. He received an Honorable Discharge due to an injury.
He became a Deacon in the Baptist church at Avenue D Baptist Church in Brownwood, and also served at FBC Sterling City, Forsan Baptist and First Baptist Granbury. In Granbury, George became a member of Gideons International and a member of the Granbury Optimist Club.
George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Brenda (Morgan) White, formerly of Granbury and currently living in Fort Collins, CO. and one daughter, Teresa and her husband, Paul Nornes (Fort Collins,CO), and granddaughters Katherine (Highlands Ranch CO) and Laura (Denver, CO.) Brother, Arlen & Dolores White of San Angelo; nephew Kurt White (Kim) of Cleburne; Robert (Shelley) of Krum; and niece Terrye White Smith (Rick) of Big Spring.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Jewel White and his mother, Elouise White McRae.
