Monte Kay Cross, 76, of Midland, Texas passed away peacefully on October 25th, 2024. Visitation will be from 6:00pm-8:00pm Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Her service will be at 11:00am Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Stonegate Fellowship. A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm November 1, 2024 at Newman Cemetery in Sylvester, Texas.
Monte Kay was born on December 3rd, 1947 in Amarillo, Texas to Alan and Dixie Johnson. She graduated from Coronado High School in Lubbock, Texas, Class of 1966. She attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Police Administration. She proudly served the citizens of Midland County for 37 years alongside her brothers and sisters in blue, retiring as a Lieutenant with the Sheriff’s Office.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Jess Cross.
She is survived by her two brothers, Richard (Connie) Johnson and Gene (Joyce) Johnson, her two boys, Clayton Cross and partner Kevin Joyce, Clint (Chrystal) Cross, and three grandchildren, Keith, Collin, and Kendall Cross, as well as a bonus daughter Kari (David) Underhill, to include so many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles, and countless friends, all whom she loved dearly! She loved serving at Stonegate as a greeter until her health declined.
Monte Kay will be remembered for her strong faith in God, devotion to her friends and family, her warm smile and her kindness to all who met her. We will miss her more than words can ever express, but we find joy in the knowledge that she is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
