Mina Fitting, known by her family as Meemaw, died in the afternoon of February 2, 2026 at the age of 85. She was born August 29, 1940 in Texxon, TX to Grady and Lillie Brown. Growing up primarily in San Angelo, TX, she graduated from San Angelo High School in 1958 as a national merit semifinalist and award-winning competitive archer. After devoting many years to raising five children, Mina sought higher education and graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in public service in her early 50s, demonstrating her commitment to lifelong learning. After college she worked many years for U.S. Congressman Lamar Smith and was an active member of the Texas Federation of Republican Women. Her work in politics took her to the Inaugural Ball of President George W. Bush.
Mina lived most of her adult life in Midland, TX and supported local initiatives like the Life Center, participated in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), and played handbells and sang in the choir at Grace Lutheran Church, where she was a member for over 50 years. Her love of travel and scuba diving took her to six continents. She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Mary Beth Daugherty and Robert Brown, her husband Ralph (Ted) Fitting, son-in-law Jim Moritz, and great grandson Tucker.
Her legacy lives in her descendants: a true matriarch, she is survived by her daughters Kelly (Larry) Stewart and Khristi Moritz, sons Freeman (Blanca) Fitting, James Fitting, and Gary (Kim) Fitting, grandchildren Sarah (Tony) Casey, Christopher Stewart, Brandon Stewart, Juliana (Carlos) Chala, Natasha (Harvey) Toolan, Mindi Basinger, Daniel Fitting, Malia (Bruce) Cruz, Carlie (Ryan) Castle, Mikaela Rosales, Chris (Alexandra) Moritz, and Michael (Kirsten) Moritz, seventeen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
