Maurietta Ramey Callahan, 85, of Big Spring, died Sunday, September 20, 2015 in a local nursing home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Jim Binnix, officiating.The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.She was born August 30, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Robert Lee Ramey and Nita Inez Carden Ramey. She was very proud of her Cherokee Indian heritage. She moved to Hereford, Texas with her family in January 1942 and graduated from Hereford High School in 1949. She met and married Marvin Callahan January 5, 1952 in Hereford, Texas.She was an LVN and certified dental assistant and retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center in 1993 after 23 years of service.Maurietta is survived by her husband, Marvin L. Callahan of Big Spring; one son, Mark Callahan of Ft. Worth; a sister-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bettye Self and Jamie Ramey and one brother, Bobby Ramey.The family suggests that memorials be made to Midway Baptist Church, 6200 S.
