Mary Ruth Holley Cathey 1/1/1933 – 11/16/2022
On November 16, 2022, Mary (Ruth) Cathey, our beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her husband and two sons. She was 89 years old. Mary Ruth was born to Mary Kate Brown-Holley and F.M. Holley on 1-1-1933, just after midnight, she was the first baby born in 1933 in Big Spring, Texas
Mary Ruth, a stunning natural beauty, met a handsome, rugged young man, Robert Charles “Bobby” Cathey while they were both attending Coahoma High School. They fell in love and soon married February 04, 1950. Together they built an amazing, loving family. Born to them were two sons, Michael Charles Cathey, June 29, 1951 and Wacey Wayne Cathey, June 29, 1953. Mary Ruth was the pure definition of a Loving wife, Nurturing Mother and Grandmother. She taught each and every one of us the true meaning of Family first and to always help others in any way you can. No-one passed through her home without a delicious home cooked meal before they left.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Bob Cathey; Son Mike Cathey and wife Marla; son Wacey Cathey and Jeannie Woodruff; Grandchildren Shelley Cathey Lewallen and husband Shane, Judd Cathey and wife Tara, Kenna Cathey Thomas and husband Wesley; Great-grandchildren Kayley and Hannah Burk, Rhett and Rylan Thomas, Lizzy Hackler and Blakelee Cathey.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Margaret Holley Hickson and husband Robert Hickson, Brother-in-law Jack Cathey and wife Katie, and grandson Sloan Lee Cathey.
Graveside services will be held at Trinity Memorial Park at 3:30pm Monday November 21, 2022. Our longtime family friend Andy Taylor will be officiating. Visiting reception to follow at the Settles Hotel if you wish to visit.
The family extends our gratitude and love to our Interim Hospice team, especially Rosanna Quintero. As well as Kindred personal care and Caretaker’s Kelly Anderson and team and Ann Davis.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make a charitable donation to Interim Hospice of Big Spring or a charity of your choice in Mary Ruth’s memory.
