Mary Rittenberry Cross, of Midland, departed this life on Monday, April 26, 2010, at the age of 62 years. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, May 7, 2010 at Stonegate Fellowship Church, with Rev. Patrick Peyton, pastor, officiating. She was born on June 23, 1947 in Newport News, Virginia and married Harvey on June 23, 1979 in Midland, TX. Mary was a member of Stonegate Fellowship. She worked as an Advocate at Safe Place, where she was known as "Happy Feet". Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed collecting nutcrackers; she loved music and really loved bragging about her grandchildren. Mary Lou was the Sun Country Gentlemans barber shop chorus biggest fan. Survivors include husband, Harvey Cross of Midland; one daughter, Adria and husband Steve Stephens of Midland; three sons, Ronnie Rittenberry of Frisco, Michael and wife Carrie Rittenberry of Midland, Josha Cross of Midland; granddaughter, Sophie Rittenberry of Frisco; grandson, Ryan Rittenberry of Frisco, grandson, Skyler Rittenberry of Midland; sister, Shirley and husband Gene Webb of Mary Esther, Florida, sister, Viana Dail of Yorktown, Virginia ; brother, Sidney Hubbard of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; aunt and uncle, Bill and Elsie Clary of Newport News, Virginia She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Hubbard and Bernice Wright; and brother Wayne Hubbard.Memorials may be made to Safe Place, PO Box 11331, Midland, TX 79702, Hospice Midland, PO 2621, Midland, TX 79702 or to Fair Havens, 2400 Whitmire BLVD, Midland, TX 79705.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Midland & Crematory. To the family: I just found out today about my friend/ co-worker Mary. I have so many memories of times at Buddy's flowers! What fun we had! I am sorry for your loss although God has His angel back. She loved her family so, and the grandchildren were her pride and joy! Bless you all!

Harvey, I am Nelda Lane's daughter and I kept up with sweet Mary through her. I am so sorry for your and your son's loss. Mary was a precious person and my mother will forever miss her special friend. We will all get to live with her for eternity one day and that is something to look forward to. Harvey, It was such a shock to learn of Mary's death. You two have meant so much to us and the family. Mary was so bubbly and outgoing and had a wonderful smile. I remember the times we would all go to the movies and dinner. Then, schedules got crazy. It was at one of the movies that I found out that you had served on the same ship as my brother in the Vietnam War. So, you two have always been more than just friends but a connection to my family as well. All this week after learning about her, she keeps coming into my mind and I can hardly believe it. We will be praying for you and your family. Your strong faith in the Lord will be your anchor at this time as well as your friends. You can call us anytime you need to if you need to talk. Harvey, Michael and Ronnie, Words cannot express the deep sadness we feel at the loss of Mary. Her sweet smile, her sense of humor, great heart and absolute joy that could brighten a room. Harvey, Dave and I thought so much of you and Mary. We were shocked today to learn about Mary. I remember when we saw you at the garage sale that she was going to have some test run, but we had not idea about this. I had a phone number, but when I called they said the number was no longer in service. I called one in the phone book, and got a fax machine. We are so sorry, and want you to know that you will be in our prayers. David and Lila Lloyd

Mary , you were the picture of quiet strength , exuded calm and peace, but you showed and demonstrated passion for Harvey and for our Barbershop Harmony Society chorus, the Sun Country Gentlemen. You were the wind beneath his wings, and as a result, he soared high,. You were diligent and went above the call of duty with Brenda and her family for the short time she was at Safe Place, even offering to help her after she left the facility. That shows care, love and concern. We miss you, and Midland has lost a servant.
