Mary Patricia (Pat) Crow Blonkvist died peacefully Friday, September 16, 2022.
The beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was born to Mary and Judson A. Crow in San Antonio, Texas on November 15, 1929. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas. She attended Southern Methodist University where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She married Dr. Brent Garland Blonkvist in 1953. She taught school in McKinney, Texas while her husband was interning at the Veterans’ Hospital in McKinney. She moved with her husband to Houston, Texas where she worked as a secretary to volunteer services at M.D. Anderson Hospital while her husband was in his residency at Hermann and Texas Children’s Hospitals. She welcomed the births of Jennifer and Tim during her time in Houston. She moved to Midland, Texas in 1957 where her husband opened his pediatric practice, and she welcomed her second son Kevin.
Pat was a tireless community volunteer. She was a very active member in the Junior League of Midland and the Cystic Fibrosis Association. She volunteered at Trinity School while her children attended. She also enjoyed being a cub scout leader for her son’s troops. She was president of The Rake and Spade Garden Club. She loved being involved in her church and attended weekly bible studies. She was also active in several book clubs as reading was a lifelong passion of hers.
Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer O’Connor and son-in-law John of Dallas; sons Tim Blonkvist and daughter in-law Lisa of San Antonio and Kevin Blonkvist and daughter in-law Emily of Midland; eight grandchildren, Ashley Bowersock and husband Justin, Whitney Gripp and husband James, Michael Blonkvist and wife Katy, Mary Lauren Kirwan and husband Bobby, Brent Blonkvist and wife Alex, Chris Blonkvist and wife Haley, Brittany Blonkvist and fiancé Sam Plumer, Brady Blonkvist and wife Julia, and seventeen great grandchildren with one on the way; sister in-law Kaye Blonkvist and Jean Crow of Dallas; as well as nieces and nephews.
Pat was especially interested in art, interior design, history, reading, gardening, and traveling. First and foremost, she loved and was immensely proud of her family, who were devoted to her and will cherish her memory. She will be remembered by all who knew her as possessing an unwavering love of all things Irish. She was immensely proud of her Irish heritage and felt fortunate to show off her beloved Ireland to her family and even sent her children to camp in Ireland several times. She was known for her quick wit and charming personality. She loved having a good time with her family and friends.
Pat was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity where her memorial service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 2:00 pm. The family wishes to thank Amy Hernandez, Arcy Cordova, Megan Garcia, Cathy Tagle, and Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1412, W. Illinois Ave., Midland, Texas, 79701 or the Midland Memorial Foundation in the name of Dr. Brent and Pat Blonkvist Infant and Children’s Endowment Fund.
