Mary (Minnie) Showalter, age 92, passed away August 27, 2022, at the Vogel (Alzheimer) center at Manor Park retirement center located at Midland Texas. She was born October 6, 1929, at Crested Butte, Colorado. She was the daughter of Cyrus and Mary Bishard.
Mary graduated from Las Animas, Colorado High School in the class of 1948. After graduation she attended a business college in La Junta, Colorado. Her first employment was at a drug store in La Junta. She then worked for an abstract company in La Junta. The next employment was with Colorado Rural Electrical Association, (REA) in La Junta and Ft Collins Colorado. She married Ernest (Ernie) D. Showalter March 21, 1950. She made her home in La Junta until her husband was discharged from the Navy. She then made her home in Ft Collins until her husband finished Engineering school at Colorado State University. She worked at numerous part time jobs while raising two children. She wanted to be a cosmetologist and went to school in Midland and passed the requirements. She worked in several salons in Midland, her last job as a cosmetologist was the manager of Curl and Swirl in Midland. She then worked at several part time jobs, then worked at University Lands for twelve years, retiring in 1994.
She was the mother of Teresa Kay Newman, born in Denver, Colorado, and Hans A. Showalter born in Salt Lake City. She and her family lived in Salt Lake City Utah, San Francisco, California and Midland Texas as her Husband worked as an electrical field engineer. She and her daughter Teresa spent many hours making craft items. Old Sore Head Days, at Stanton was a wonderful place to sell their goods.
In October 2015 she moved with her husband into the Manor Park retirement center. Due to her health, she moved into the Vogel unit at Manor Park in February 2016. On March of 2022 she and her husband celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.
Minnie is survived by her husband, Ernie Showalter, her son Hans Showalter of Richland Washington, her daughter Teresa Newman and husband Frank and grandson Taylor Newman of Midland, Texas, her sister-in-law Norman Jean Brenneman and her two sons, Robert and Jerry and daughter Ruth Ann Graber; her brother Arnold Bishard, and wife, Gwen, and nephew Clifford Bishard.
She was preceded in death by her parent Cyrus Bishard and Mary Bishard, brother Levi Bishard, his wife and son.
Her family would like to express gratitude to the service provided by Vogel at Manor Park, the Manor Park chaplain Bill Billett and Home Hospice for their love, care and prayers during her difficult time.
Memorials may be made to the Vogel Center at Manor Park, 410 Helen Greathouse, Midland, Texas 79707 and Home Hospice of Midland. Celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2022 at Parks Faudree Family Chapel at Manor Park in Midland.
