Mary Jo Flanagan Lofton (July 2, 1927 – May 13, 2012) was born in Sweetwater, TX. She was the 1st daughter of Joe Flanagan and Mary Maude Malphette. She is best known as a nurse and loving mother, wife, and grandmother. She attended Sweetwater schools and graduated from the high school there. After high school she attended San Angelo College and earned her Registered Nursing Degree, graduating at the top of her class. She married Owen Norris Lofton on June 11, 1948 in San Angelo, TX. They then moved to Lubbock, TX and she worked, supporting her husband while he attended Texas Tech for his engineering degree. They had 3 children, Roger Owen Lofton, Karen Jo Daves (Lofton), and David Wayne Lofton. She was a Southern Baptist all her life, and a long time member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Snyder, TX. She worked as a nurse intermittently throughout her life; she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Kermit, TX; she was an amazing seamstress, and always managed to create the best suppers every night. She was always a warm, accepting, and loving sister, mother-in-law, mother and grandmother. Her life revolved around her family and she gave everything she had to them. She had 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 5 (soon to be 6) great grandchildren. She and her husband moved to Midland, TX in 2002 from Snyder, TX to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The part of her life which gave her much joy was being deeply involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives. This included numerous trips such as California, Yellowstone, and Canada via motor home. An annual event for many years was a family get together at a condo in the mountains where the kids and grandkids skied while Mary Jo enjoyed cooking and taking care of everyone, enjoying everyone being together. Almost all of her vacations were shared with family because that's what she enjoyed most in life. This remained true even in her later years when she enjoyed watching ball games and recitals for her youngest group of grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Roger Owen Lofton and her husband Owen Norris Lofton. She is survived by son David Wayne Lofton, daughter Karen Jo Daves, grandchildren Dustin Richard Daves, Matthew Owen Lofton, Rebecca Jo Norman, Amy Marie Lofton, Ryan David Lofton, Sarah Grace Lofton, and Reid Owen Lofton, daughters-in-law, Donna Perry Lofton and Rynda Jennings Lofton, son-in-law Richard Ernest Daves, granddaughter-in-law Jenny Daves, grandson-in-law Cale Jhett Norman, and great grandchildren Quentin Kye Norman, Bailey Reese Daves, Kimbree Jo Norman, Kasch Jaxson Norman, Hannah Elizabeth Daves, and (on the way) Chloe Daves.Services will be Thursday, May 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland.
