Mary Ellen McKee Eggleston, 89, of Midland formerly of Big Spring, passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 in Midland with her family by her side. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with Rev. Jeff Franklin officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.Mary was born April 9, 1927 in Big Spring, Texas to Lewis McKee and Veda Mae Walker McKee. She married Billie Eggleston January 2, 1942 in Big Spring, where they raised their family. She worked at Carter’s Furniture and Wheats Furniture in Big Spring for many years. She owned and operated Mary’s Café from 1960 until 1966 where she enjoyed serving her customers and making lasting friendships. Mary taught Sunday School for 30 years and was the Superintendent for the Jr. Department for about 20 years. When she moved to Midland in 1988 she joined Kelview Heights Baptist Church. After moving to Midland she worked for Carter’s Furniture until her retirement. She loved music, and she played guitar with her family as a child. Family reunions were a joy for Mary because the family was all together to sing and play. One of her favorite pass times were the many trips going to see the bluebonnets bloom with her daughter, daughters-in-law, granddaughter and great granddaughters.Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter Kathryn Martin and husband Jerry of Midland; sons Mike Eggleston and wife Kathie of Ira, TX, and Don Eggleston and wife Carol of Midland; grandchildren Rebecca and Ross Kimbell of Midland, Angela and Dusty Walker of Midland, Wesley and Molly Eggleston of Midland, Evan and Christy Eggleston of Menard, Brandon Eggleston, Dustin Eggleston, Scott Hull, and Travis Hull; great grandchildren Elizabeth Ransom, Caroline Ransom, Abigayle Ransom, Sophie Gross, Stella Gross, Hayden Eggleston, Harper Eggleston, Tyler Eggleston, John-Michael Eggleston and Sarah Eggleston; sisters Rachel Shaffer of Big Spring, Neva Shaffer of Big Spring, Sue Whitaker of San Angelo, Karen Murphy of Granbury, Jennie Shaw and husband Ronald of Smyer, and Delores Andrews and husband Ray of Odessa.Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years Billie Leon Eggleston; parents Lewis and Veda McKee; brother Raymond McKee; sister Frances Thomas.The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Midland and nursing staff of Midland Memorial Hospital and well as the staff at Senior Care of Midland.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland.
