Mary Dudley, 84, of Big Spring, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024. No services are planned at this time.

Mary was born August 4, 1939, in Heath, Texas to parents Ruth (Lee) Hanby and Clinard Hanby and was the youngest of eight children. She grew up and attended schools in Rockwall and graduated in 1957. She met her husband (Jerry Dudley) in high school and they were married on August 23, 1958. She attended Texas A&M Commerce, where she obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Mary received her Doctorate in higher Education from Texas Tech University. She was a professor at Howard College from 1969 until her retirement in 2001. She taught 3rd grade at Kentwood Elementary for a few years after moving to Big Spring.

Mary loved travelling with her sisters throughout Europe, Canada and the United States. She and Jerry also enjoyed traveling to casinos in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Nevada.

Mary is survived by her husband Jerry Dudley of Big Spring; two sisters: Alma Ruth Beene of Dallas and Mary Sue Smith of Rockwall; sister’s in-laws: Patty Dudley and Judy Dunn, both of Garland; two daughters: Julie Chandler of Grandbury and LeeAnn Napper (Nicky) of Lamesa; and two grandsons: Gage Chandler of Weatherford and Coddy Chandler of Broomfield, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Lamesa Adoptable Pet Program, 502 S Houston Ave, Lamesa, TX 79331.

I met Mary Lloyd when I moved to Rockwall in the 2nd grade. She was a wonderful friend and classmate. She was an Aggie and I was a Longhorn, but she never held that against me, although she did pay off a football bet one time with pennies glued together! She was Miss Rockwall High School in 1957 and also Football Sweetheart. She was, indeed, a sweetheart and will be greatly missed by the Rockwall High School of 1957. Rest in Peace Mary LLoyd. I have so many fond memories of Mary, LeeAnn, Julie and Jerry. My Mom loved Mary's quick wit and truly enjoyed their lunches together with Ann. I'm wishing you all peace and strength in this painful time.

My Aunt Mary was such a delight to talk to when we would see each other at family gatherings over the years. She always reminded me that we shared the same birthday. My condolences to my Uncle Jerry and my cousins Julie and LeeAnn

Jerry, sorry for your loss. I remember that time you all came to Pine Bluff to visit Mary Ursery and we went fishing on the Arkansas River. We had such a good time and your brought me a buzz bait made by the Master Bait Company. We had a big laugh over that. Take care. C W McNew

Mary Loyd was my Texas cousin.Our mothers were sisters. When we were growing up in the 1950s we visited back and forth between Pine Bluff AR and Rockwall TX. We had great fun and great memories and I loved Mary Loyd and her large Hanby family. I am sad. Fred Ursery
