Marvie Mark Shortes, 81, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, October 6, 2001, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 10, 2001, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. He was born on September 28, 1920 in Ackerly, Texas. He had farmed for 58 years in the Brown community before retiring. Mr. Shortes was a Baptist. He was a member of Farm Bureau, Flower Grove Coop Gin and was active in the Christian Motorcycle Association and the Harley Owners Group. Survivors include one son, Dee Shortes of Portland, Oregon; one brother, Fabian Shortes of Venice, California; and two sisters, Norma Wheeler of Big Spring and Erma Blagrave of Stanton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert F. and May Evelyn Shortes; two brothers, L.O. Shortes and Lloyd Shortes; and two sisters, Othel Fitts and Nona Blagrave. The family suggests memorials to the Arthritis Foundation, P. O. Box 1918, Lubbock, Texas 79408. The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
