C. Mark Maloney

C. Mark Maloney, 75, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 16, 2025, at his family home in Midland, Texas. Mark was born on October 24, 1949, in Seminole to Claude C. “Cy” Maloney Jr. (1921–1987) and Rose Ann “Randy” (Robertson) Maloney (1926–2011). He grew up in Odessa and Midland, graduating from Midland High School in 1967 and earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin. Following in his father’s footsteps, Mark built a lifelong career as an independent landman in the oil and gas industry, just as his father had done before him. He took great pride in carrying on the family tradition of petroleum landwork and was well respected for his deep knowledge of the land and mineral rights business in the Permian Basin and New Mexico.

Outside of work, Mark was an avid sportsman with a particular passion for bird hunting. This was a beloved family pastime that he enjoyed from an early age, often on trips with family and close friends. Mark was known for his love of the outdoors and his sharpshooter’s eye, and he cherished the camaraderie of hunting excursions that became annual traditions. Those who knew him will remember his adventurous spirit and the joy he found in nature’s open spaces.

Mark was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jo Ann Marek Maloney, who passed away in 2014. Mark and Jo Ann shared many happy years together, and he deeply loved her until his last day. He was also predeceased by his parents, Claude C. “Cy” Maloney Jr. and Rose Ann “Randy” Maloney. Mark’s family finds comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his wife and parents.

Mark’s legacy lives on through his family. He is survived by his son, Sean Dylan Maloney of Bozeman, Montana, who was Mark and JoAnn’s pride and joy. He is also survived by his aunt, Mary Maloney Hughes, of Seminole, Texas, along with Mary’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition, Mark leaves behind many beloved relatives from the Robertson family in Indiana, his mother’s extended family, who remember him fondly across the miles. Mark treasured his family connections and stayed in touch with relatives near and far throughout his life. He also leaves behind his faithful canine companion, Rhodes, who was a constant source of comfort and joy.

In keeping with his wishes, Mark will be cremated. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate his life and honor his memory.

The Maloney family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all those who supported Mark throughout his life. In particular, they wish to thank his lifelong friends – including the Askins family, Kerry Blair, Jan Wright, Lynn Durham, Jr., the Watts family, and countless others – for their unwavering friendship and the joy they brought to Mark over the years. Special appreciation goes to Dr. P. K. Patel, Mark’s physician, for his devoted care, Homecare Plus of Midland, and to Angel Demick, Mark’s long-standing caretaker, for her compassion and dedication. The family is profoundly grateful for the love and support shown by everyone who shared in Mark’s journey.

Mark Maloney will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his integrity, his love of the outdoors, and the steadfast love he showed to family and friends. His memory lives on in the stories, laughter, and cherished moments he leaves behind.
