Marilyn Kay Darnell (1942 – 2009)Marilyn K. Darnell, 67 of Midland, TX passed away at Midland Memorial Hospital on July 20, 2009.She was born February 14, 1942 in Tulsa, OK to William Lloyd Penny and Ruth Penny. In her early years, she was raised on the family farm near Bonham, TX in northeast Texas.In 1962, following her marriage to John Paul Darnell on September 15, 1961 in Colorado City, TX, she moved to Midland, TX and lived her life to the fullest. The couple first met at San Angelo College (Angelo State University) in the 1960-1961 school year when she was majoring in psychology and he was studying journalism and editing the college newspaper and yearbook. Marilyn attended the American Airlines flight attendant school. She also won the Miss Delta Dagger beauty pageant representing the Air Force Base in Big Spring, TX.Marilyn lived a gracious life, which abundantly blessed her family and friends.With her loving spirit and encouraging attitude, she lived her life with great poise, grace and never give up attitude. She was a fighter.So many folks look for somebody to make them whole but Marilyn was already complete. Marilyn was a beautiful woman inside and out. She never saw the bad side of folks. She just loved you anyway. We have never met anyone so kind, her goodness impressed us more than her beauty, and she was a true beauty. Her family deeply loved her and admired her fighting spirit. They will miss her terribly.Survivors include her husband, John Paul Darnell of Midland, TX; a daughter, Elisa Darnell Gregory of Rowlett, TX and her husband, Tim, and their daughters, Dixie and Tori; a son John Bryant Darnell of Midland, TX and his children Cameron, John and Jaquelyn; a son, William Paul Darnell of Frisco, TX and his wife, Jennifer and their son, Zachary.The family wishes to thank the nurses, physicians and other caring people at the Midland Memorial Hospital and its Intensive Care Unit and Critical Care Unit for their kindness and enriching care to beloved Marilyn Kay Darnell. The family will have a private service and request no flowers.
