Margie Smith (Terry), known to her grandkids as Mimi, 88, passed away to be with her Lord and reunite with her husband, Jefferson (J.L) Smith on Wednesday December 21, 2022. Margie was born on July 27, 1934 in Santa Anna Texas to Iola and Oscar Terry. She was the oldest of four children. She was preceded in death by her Parents Oscar & Iola Terry, her brother, Oscar Terry, her sister, Frankie Quinn, and her husband Jefferson (J.L.) Smith. Margie grew up in the Coleman area and went to school there. She married her childhood sweetheart in 1951 and when he died in 2020 they had been married for 69 years.
Margie and J.L. made their home in Dallas in 1954 where Margie worked for Texas Instruments and started their family. Margie was a homemaker and was the glue that held everything together. They later moved to Central Texas for a time, but in 1968 they moved to Midland. Margie and J.L. had 4 children together that they raised together in the same house here in Midland.
Margie traveled all over these great United States with J.L. riding motorcycles. They were a part of a riding club where they were President and Vice President. Margie was always active in the PTA, she was often the room mom and in charge of parties, she was always helping teachers at the schools get their rooms ready for the New Year or just whatever they needed her to do. She also substituted for the secretaries at the schools. She made a lot of friends in the school district. She was always talking about the trip to Jamaica! She went with Frankie, Elaine, and Dawnna…you can only imagine the fun she had. She loved her family very much and always made sure to have goodies for the grandkids, no matter how old they got.
She is survived by her brother, Don Terry of Coleman, daughter Karan Deeds of Midland, son Jeffery Smith also of Midland, son Terry Smith and his wife Rhonda of Tow Texas, and daughter Dawnna Smith of Midland, seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren with another on the way, and a great-great granddaughter.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley- Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
