Lura Hale Davis, 96, loving wife, mother and grandmother of Midland passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Lura was born on November 30, 1925 in Loraine, TX to Nettie and Charlie Hale.
She attended Bowman school in Mitchell county. The family moved from Mitchell county to Martin county in 1937 where she completed her education. She moved to Lubbock in the early 40’s. Later she moved to Colorado and then to California where she graduated from The School of Cosmetology in 1949.
On February 23, 1952, Lura married Morris Shelton Davis in Las Cruces, New Mexico; they were married for 62 years.
The first nine years of their marriage was spent moving around New Mexico and Texas as Dad worked for Magnolia Oil. In the later part of 1964, she established the Trend Beauty Shop in Midland, Texas where she had great success. She retired in 1983. She had a strong sense of work ethic and it even continued after retirement.
Lura enjoyed RVing, fishing, baking, growing pecans, crafts, and crocheting. She was actively involved in Chapter 172 of the Holiday Ramblers, Midland Pecan Growers Association, and the Lions Club. Lura loved to travel as long as she didn’t have to fly! She was a long time member of Cotton Flat Baptist Church.
Lura is preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Nettie Hale, sisters Mayme McFerrin, Averill Badgett, Bernice Vannoy, Jean Ann Padgett, brother Charles Hale, and son-in-law L. B. Tennison, Jr.
Lura is survived by daughters Toniya Tennison of Odessa, Texas and Kathryn Billington and her husband Randy Billington of Midland, Texas; and grandchildren Debbie Tennison of Odessa, Shea Tennison and his wife Danna of Odessa, Lucas Chandler and his wife Sara of Midland, Bobby Billington and his wife Amy of Midland, Tony Billington and his wife Alyssa of Midland, Tabitha Haussescker and Kent Kelly of Midland, and Kyle Billington of Midland. She is also survived by 28 great-grandchildren, 8 great great-grandchildren, four brothers, Doyle Hale of Stanton, Bill Hale of Brownwood, Hubert Hale and his wife Flo of Stanton, Kenneth Hale and his wife Bobbie Faye of Proctor, one sister Betty Sue Crocker of Big Spring, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Visitation with the family is scheduled for 7 pm – 9 pm Friday, February 25, 2022 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Services are scheduled Saturday, February 26 at 9:30 am at Cotton Flat Baptist Church with Rick Holeman and Jimmy Skiles officiating. Pallbearers are Shea Tennison, Lucas Chandler, Tyler Meurer, Kendall Meurer, Kody Tennison, and Wayne Meurer. Honorary pallbearer is Mason Tennison. Burial will follow at Resthaven North Cemetery.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards Debbie Tennison, the entire staff of Jenn’s Loving Caregivers, and Hospice of Midland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Midland, Cotton Flat Baptist Church, Greenfield Acres Baptist Church, or to the charity of your choice.
