Lupe “Charlie” Martinez, 60, of Coahoma, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He will lie in state from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm that same evening. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, December 30, 2024, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with interment at Coahoma Cemetery.
Charlie was born on December 19, 1964, in Coahoma, to Guadalupe and Simona (Ramirez) Martinez. He was a devout Christian and loved the Lord with all his heart. Charlie retired after 20 years of service with the City of Coahoma. He loved fishing, gardening and planting, his Dallas Cowboys, but he loved nothing more than being “Pops” to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Gloria Bustamante Martinez; son, Chris Bustamante and wife Crystal; daughter Ami Escalante and husband Robert; grandchildren, Bailee, Abigail, Alison, Aiden, Olivia, Carli; mother, Simona Ramirez Martinez; siblings, Yolanda Gonzales, Lorenza Martinez, Irma Hewtty, and Jerry Martinez; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Guadalupe Martinez; grandparents, Fidel and Vicenta Martinez, and Carlos and Lorenza Ramirez.
Pallbearers will be Chris Bustamante, Robert Escalante, Jerry Martinez, Freddie Moron, Manuel “J.R.” Gonzales, Alonzo Gonzales, Joseph Martinez, Gabriel Hewtty, Michael Hewtty, Ray Seales, and Isacc Hewtty.
