Lula June Ritter-McKinney was welcomed to God’s Heavenly Kingdom, on November 21, 2024.
Her loving husband welcomed her at Heaven’s Gate who had waited patiently for ten years, along with her parents, sisters, family members, and friends. It was a joyous occasion indeed.
Lula June was born July 30, 1928, in McKinney, Texas, the sixth daughter of Lula and Jessie Ritter. On a blind date, June met her husband, Hulen McKinney, of Big Spring, Texas. They were married on October 1, 1955. The adventure began, and June and Hulen traveled throughout the United States with their daughters and the world through Hulen’s work.
June became the family’s CMO (Chief Mother Officer) and ensured that the family stayed on track in every aspect. June was and will continue to be fierce for her family, and there was never a time that June did not put her family before herself. Not a big computer or text fan, June was an avid caller to her family and friends and always had her address book close by.
One of June’s greatest joys was watching her grandchildren grow up. Each was her “favorite grandchild,” and June loved each one equally and passionately. June was so proud of their accomplishments and will watch their life journeys from heaven.
During the warm months in Seattle, you would find June on her driveway with chairs set up for neighbor visits. Folks walking their dogs would stop by for a chat, neighbors strolled over for a break from yardwork, arriving home from work, or picking up their mail would walk up the driveway. Strangers would wave hello. June was a fixture at the corner of her street.
June said,” I’ve had a good life. I never dreamed growing up that this would be my life.”
June’s surviving family includes daughters Janet McKinney-Marsh (Mark), Santa Rosa Florida, Norma McKinney-Roley (Pat), Renton, Washington, and Grandchildren Danielle Colby Marsh (John), Louisville, KY, Trevor Thomas Marsh (Jessica), Durango, CO, and Kathryn Olivia McKinney-Roley, Missoula, MT, sisters Jean Honea, Phoenix, AZ, and Rosa Dearing, Greensboro, NC.
June is preceded in death by her husband, Hulen McKinney, sisters Mildred Renfro, Josie Reavis, Mrytle Hinsley, and Lilly Ritter, and parents Lula and Jessie Ritter.
