Merrick, Lucille, 93, of Big Spring, died on Friday, June 2, 2000, in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, June 5, 2000, at Mt. Olive Memorial Park with Rev. Walter McCall, pastor of Midway Baptist Church, officiating. She was born on September 7, 1906 in Runnels County, Texas and married Andrew J. Merrick in 1927 in Lamesa, Texas. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1944. She worked at Hall-Bennett Clinic for 25 years in bookkeeping. Her husband, Andrew Merrick, was Sheriff of Howard County and after his death in 1944, she finished his term, serving eleven months. Mrs. Merrick had been a member of First Baptist Church since the age of 13. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Helen Merrick of Possom Kingdom Lake; one daughter-in-law, Wanda Merrick of Abilene; one sister, Docia Preston of Big Spring; five grandchildren, Beverly Hughes of San Antonio, Edward A. Merrick of Midland, Jennifer Rule of Edmond, Oklahoma, James J. Merrick of Abilene and Debbie Pearson of Ft. Davis; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by one son, Andrew J. Merrick, Jr. Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.,
