Rev. Lucian Rudd, Jr.

Lucian Rudd, Jr., 92 of Midland, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022. A visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00PM on Saturday, January 5, 2022 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday February 6, 2022 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel. As this service is a celebration of his life, anyone who wishes to do so will be encouraged to share their memories or antidotes. Lucian will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas near family members who passed before him.
Lucian was born on July 5, 1929 in Port Arthur, Texas to Lucian & Oeda Mea Rudd. He graduated Hardin Simmons University with a MBA in 1952. He went on to Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where in 1957 he received Bachelor of Divinity and in 1963 a Master of Religious Education. In the late 50’s and early 60’s he worked at Missionary churches in Missouri and Iowa. In August of 1965 he moved his family to Odessa Texas to accept a position on staff at 1st Baptist Church in Odessa, In August of 1967 he accepted the calling of Belmont Baptist Church in Odessa and was pastor there for 8 years. He then went on staff at 1st Baptist Church of Midland. During this time he met his wife, Betty, and they went on to form Rudd Christian Book Store. Later, in semi-retirement, he was pastor at Northwestern Baptist Church in Midland and was interim pastor at several churches in west Texas well into his 80’s. He truly loved and cared for all around him and cherished the opportunity to share his love with all.
Lucian is survived by Sons David Rudd and Nathan D.(Danny) Rudd both of Odessa, Step son Wes McMillan of Farmers Branch, TX and step daughter Donna Lynn Welty and husband Wayne of Sugarland, TX, sister Jane Olivier of Groves, TX and several nieces and nephews.
Lucian is preceded in death by parents Lucian, Sr. and Oeda Mea Rudd, sister Lillie Mea Burke, Brother Dixie Lee Rudd and wife Betty Rudd.
