Lucia “Lucy” Gomez

Lucia “Lucy” Gomez, 79, of Big Spring, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025 at her residence.  She will lie in state from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM ~ 7:00 PM with Prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.  Procession to Mount Olive Memorial Park for the Committal Service will leave from Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 24, 2025.

Lucia and her twin brother Luis (Loy) Zapata were born February 24, 1945 to parents Longino Zapata and Guadalupe Garza Zapata in Big Spring, Texas.  She was a lifetime resident of Big Spring.  She was a faithful servant to Jesus and her church.  She loved evangelizing with others.  She enjoyed crafts, watching westerns and wearing hats.

She is survived by her children: Lupe Martinez (Mario), Lydia Martinez (Willie), Gena Granados (Ernie), Nancy Rodriguez (Ralph) and Aguinaldo Martinez III; 22 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren and 3 great great greatgrandchildren; her siblings: Luis “Loy” Zapata, Delia Subia, Mary Subia, Helen Martinez and Rosie Armendarez as well as her adopted daughters: Frances Diaz, Stephanie Stewart, Stephanie Canales, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Benigno Gomez; daughter Mary Helen Escovedo, granddaughters: Kasey Narbaiz and Britney Ramirez and grandson Branden Guzman.
