Loretta (Jean) McClelland, 76, of Midland, passed away peacefully on August 25, after a prolonged illness.
Jean was born on July 12, 1948, in San Antonio Texas. She spent her early years in Floresville and Smiley, Texas, before moving to Ft. Stockton, in high school.
In 1969, Jean married her beloved husband, Jeff, and in 1976, they settled in Midland, where they raised their children.
Jean spent most of her years as a homemaker. She was a very hands-on mom, playing an active role in her kids’ activities. Whether she was keeping score at a softball game or volunteering as Cub Scout den leader, she always helped where she was needed.
Jean cherished her role as a grandmother and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was always available to pick them up from school or keep them in her home. Her grandchildren loved spending time with her. She attended most of their events and has been their biggest cheerleader.
Jean was a talented seamstress and an excellent cook. Home cooked meals at the dinner table were something her children enjoyed almost daily, as they were growing up. Jean also loved to camp and spent a great deal of time camping with her family. In her free time, she loved to craft. She crocheted doll clothes, made wreaths and enjoyed many other craft projects over the years. Jean also loved to put together jigsaw puzzles. One of her favorite activities was going to karaoke and listening to her family sing.
Jean believed in Jesus as her savior, and her faith in Him guided her and shaped her into a woman with outstanding character and integrity.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Oda Cantrell, and Elsie Alberta Reed Crabtree, as well as her siblings, Evelyn Cantrell Mazur, Joyce Cantrell Dugan, and Danny Cantrell, and infant daughter, Carolyn Jean McClelland.
Jean is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jeff McClelland, 3 children, Sheila McClelland Wilson, Gabe McClelland, and Jason McClelland, all of Midland, 5 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
