Lloyd Wayne Mitchell Jr.

Lloyd Wayne Mitchell, Jr., 89, passed away surrounded by his family Friday, August 30, 2024, in Big Spring, Texas. He was born on December 3, 1934, to Lloyd Wayne and Madge (McBrayer) Mitchell in Lorena, TX. Wayne was a proud member and served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Stanton. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from Baylor University. Wayne retired as Superintendent of Stanton ISD in 1992, after his retirement he served as the interim Superintendent in 16 school districts until 2007. He also served on the Martin County Hospital Board and the Martin County Appraisal District Board. Wayne enjoyed ranching in Howard and Jones Counties. He served as the Director of Academy of Western Artists.

He is loved and missed by his wife, Dixie (Perryman) Mitchell; daughters, Natalie Trampe and husband Michael, and Valerie Smith and husband Jim; bonus children, Margaret Hunt and husband Truett, John S. Henry and wife Blake, Patrick Henry and wife Wendy, Elizabeth Baize and husband Craig, Maria Flavin and husband Kevin, Anne Frances Meeks and husband Terry, and James Perryman Henry and wife Heather; grandchildren, Micah Trampe and wife Bailey, Nathan Trampe and wife Callie, Matai Trampe and wife Amanda, Savanah Tunnell and husband Josh, Sean Smith and wife Lauren; great-grandchildren, Melanie, Caleb, and Brailynn; sisters, Mary Catherine Mitchell, and Charlotte Wetzel and husband Grayson; brothers, Billy Tom Mitchell and wife Barbara, and Jimmy Neil Mitchell; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Natha (McMinn) Mitchell; and parents, Lloyd Wayne and Madge (McBrayer) Mitchell.

He will be available for viewing Monday, September 2, 2024, between the hours of 4:00-8:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. that same day at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home of Big Spring. Funeral Service will be held at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel at Big Spring at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
