Linda Meeks Wiest, 83, passed away on Friday, November 25th in Midland, Texas. She was a resident of Cowden Cottage at Manor Park at the time of her death.
A memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 10th at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home starting at 2pm. Her ashes will be interred next to her husband in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at a later date.
Linda was born October 19th, 1939 in Fort Worth, Texas to Jack and Lula Mae Meeks. At an early age the family moved to Longview, Texas. Linda graduated from Longview High School in 1957 and from Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) in 1961with a degree in Art. She moved to New York City and went to work for Knoll, an office furniture design company. She met Harry J Wiest in New York, and they married in Longview on December 7th, 1963. They had no children. Harry was program director for Public Broadcasting Television, so they moved several times before settling in Lewiston, Maine. Harry J died in 1997 and Linda moved to Midland 1999.
She was a volunteer at Midland Friends of the Library Bookstore, and St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. She was a supporter of the Midland Symphony, Midland Community Theater, The Midland College Friends of the Series, and Museum of the Southwest.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by sister Jane Meeks Vitrano and brother-in-law Frank Vitrano of Midland; niece Linda Nichols and family of Midland; nephew Tony Vitrano and family of Spring Branch, Texas; and sister-in-law Caroline Cavanaugh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The family would like to thank the staff and caretakers of Cowden Cottage and Hospice of Midland for the wonderful and loving care they showed to Linda.
