Lester Leroy Higgins of Midland, a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on June 5, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family. He was 86 years old. His memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 11:00AM at Temple Baptist Church in Midland. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons Caleb Higgins, Nathan Patterson, Daniel Owen, Billy Laminack, Michael Laminack, Blake Higgins, and Tanner Young.
Lester was born in Texas on August 31, 1934. He was one of eight children. He moved to California with his family where he met his wife Linda Lanell James. They were married for 68 years. Lester had many jobs, always wanting to learn new skills but was finally able to get back to Texas to work in the oil fields. Lester was a hard worker and continued working until May of 2021.
Lester had faith in God and lived a Christian life. He loved to lead the signing and often played his harmonica in church.
Lester shared the plan of salvation often but also shared by his daily life. Lester and Linda had five children. James Higgins preceded him in death (Patti), Betty Patterson, Shirley Owen (Danny), Leslie Laminack (Kerry), and Philip Higgins (Lisa).
They have 13 grandchildren. Rebecca Arons, Caleb Higgins, Nathan Patterson, Cassandra Walters, Shirlinda Savahl (Sharief), Carol Danford, Daniel Owen, Billy Laminack (Lacie), Michael Laminack (Sarah), Blake Higgins (Kristi), Ali Young, Tanner Young, and Hannah Higgins. Lester is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren. Tristen Patterson, Samantha Walters, Amaris and Aniyah Patterson; Maylinda, Owen, and Emily Savahl; Joshua and Colton McElhone, Dominic Danford, Samuel Owen, Levi Laminack, Kaylee, Ollie, Logan Laminack, Rickey and Adalaya Goforth, Kambri and Bryce Higgins, and Mason Young.
Grandpa loved taking his great-grandchildren and grandchildren for rides on his “mule.” He will be missed. He felt blessed to have a wonderful church family at Temple Baptist. Thanks to Br. Dennis Davis and the incredible staff at Midland Hospice who helped us make his last days easier.
