Leonor Rodriguez Sotelo

Leonor Rodriguez Sotelo, 87, of Big Spring, passed away on December 14, 2024. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm, Friday, December 20, 2024 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.   Rosary service will be at 7:00 pm at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Big Spring. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

Leonor Rodriguez was born on December 5, 1937 in Knott, TX to Gabino Rodriguez, Sr. and Savina Baca Rodriguez. She attended Knott schools and was proud to be a Knott Hillbilly. While attending a wedding reception in early 1966, she met Maurilio “Willie” Sotelo, who she would later marry on July 9, 1966, at St. Thomas Catholic Church. She went on to become mother to five children, while also working to raise them. She worked a variety of jobs, having worked at Big Spring Dress and Walls Factory. She was an accomplished seamstress, and created many bridesmaid dresses, wedding dresses, as well as clothing for her daughters. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting. One Christmas, she made a quilt for all five of her children, which they still dearly treasure. Leonor also loved to cook and made the best enchiladas around. She recently still made Thanksgiving dinner. She was a devout Catholic and was a Guadalupana and Cursillista.

Leonor is survived by her children, Jaime Sotelo of Big Spring, Paul Sotelo (Cindy) of Lone Oak, Lorina Sotelo Bradford (Blaine) of Midland, John Sotelo (Anna Lisa) of Big Spring, and Cynthia Sotelo Castillo (Reyes) of Big Spring; her sister, Alejandra Barrios, brother, Ray Rodriguez, and her sister-in-law Anita Sotelo; 14 grandchildren: Cecili Acosta, Victoria Molina, Nicholas Sotelo, Matilde Sotelo, Robert Sotelo, Samuel Sotelo, Alejandro Sotelo, Aaron Sotelo, Andrea Sotelo, Abel Sotelo, Ethan Castillo, Zachary Castillo, Bethanie Scoggins, and Natalie Bradford; 6 great-grandchildren: Lyna, Damien, Kameron, Ellie, Rowan, and Olly.

Leonor is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, an infant daughter, Angela, her parents, brothers Eulalio Rodriguez and Gabino Rodriguez, Jr., a sister, Monica Chavez, brother-in-law, Robert Sotelo and sister-in-law, Consuelo Balderas.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Sotelo, Robert Sotelo, Samuel Sotelo, Alejandro Sotelo, Aaron Sotelo, Abel Sotelo, Patrick Rodriguez and Jacob Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers will be Damien Sotelo, Ethan Castillo and Zachary Castillo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
