Lawrence Alfred Jost

Lawrence Alfred Jost, passed away peacefully, in the early morning hours on October 15, 2024, in San Angelo, Texas at the age of 88. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church at 10:00 am followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at the St. Lawrence Cemetery.

He was born at home on September 3, 1936, in Runnels County, in the Olfen Community, near Rowena, Texas to Elo and Elizabeth Schwertner Jost. Lawrence married Helen Schniers Jost, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall, Texas on October 25, 1958. Lawrence was stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana where he served in the National Guard. In January of 1963, Helen and Lawrence planted their roots in St. Lawrence and began their family farming operation. He was a devoted, life-long farmer with a passion for John Deere equipment.

Lawrence was preceded in death by both parents, a son, Ronald Jost, and a grandson, Todd Weishuhn, and by brothers-in-law, Mike Franke, James Schniers, and C B Schniers.

He is survived by a daughter, Belinda Jost Weishuhn (David), and two sons, Steven Jost (Jessi) and Stuart Jost (Cassie). He leaves behind the following grandchildren: Amy Weishuhn Schwartz (Justin), Jordan Jost, Saegan Jost Cockerham (Keet), Edwin Jost, Wyatt Jost, Mylieh Jost, Cadence Jost and Faith Jost along with great-granddaughters Amber Schwartz, Brenly Schwartz and Stevie Lee Cockerham. He is also survived by his siblings: two brothers, Wilbert Jost (June) and Eugene Jost (Marilee), and by two sisters, Virginia Jost Franke (Mike, deceased) and Loretta Jost Fohn (Louis) along with many special nieces, nephews and friends. Lawrence was a kind and gentle soul, who greatly valued his family, especially his grandchildren and great granddaughters; each of whom were the apple of his eye.

He was generous and kind to a fault and was always open and sensitive to the needs of others less fortunate. He was dedicated to the upbringing of his community and was always proud to be from and tell you all about St. Lawrence. Lawrence was actively involved in any organization that he could possibly be a member of and hardly every missed a meeting.

He enjoyed being a proud member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, the St. Lawrence Gun Club, Men’s Society and serving as a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. He was a founding father to the St. Lawrence Dance Club, Boll Weevil Eradication, along with the St. Lawrence Fire Department. Lawrence also served as a board member for the Glasscock County Coop and Glasscock County ISD. He passionately served his community for 32 years as a board member on the Glasscock County Soil & Water Conservation District. He also served as the Vice Chairman for multiple years. Lawrence was always dedicated to what he was involved in, whether it be a board or his family.
