Larry Holmes, 73, passed away on Sunday March 5, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Resthaven North Cemetery in Midland with Rev. M.R. Thomason officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory in Midland.Larry was born February 24, 1944 in Gorman, Texas to James Edward Holmes and Fannie Ruth Banks Holmes. After graduating high school he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He obtained his Associates degree in business from Odessa College. Larry married the love of his life Shirley Whittle on July 7, 1972. He was the co-owner of Holmes Auto Supply with his brother and loved the friendships that he made through the years. In his spare time Larry loved playing golf, where he was able to make additional friendships. Larry was a loving and caring person and brought an energy to every room he entered. He will be missed by all that knew him.Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 44 years, Shirley Whittle Holmes of Midland; sons James (Jamie) Holmes and wife Charissa of Midland, and Michael Holmes and wife Kandace of Midland; grandchildren Jackie, Lexy, Kylea, Austin, and Kadyn; brother James (Jimmy) Holmes of Midland, sister Belinda Pyle of Graham; numerous nieces and nephews.
