Larry Don Hatfield of Midland, Texas, passed away on March 31, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, “GPa,” brother and friend.
Larry was born on January 27, 1953, in Merkel, Texas, to Buck and Shirley Hatfield. Shortly after, the family moved to Snyder, Texas, where Larry graduated from Snyder High School in 1971 and attended West Texas College. He spent much of his early life working at The Sweet Shop alongside his parents and siblings- building memories, work ethic, and a strong sense of family.
After moving to Midland, Larry began his lifelong career in real estate, where he also met the love of his life- his “sweet little wife,” Debbie. The two built both a business and a beautiful life together.
Larry is survived by his wife, Debbie Hatfield of Midland; his children, Stephanie Hatfield of Abilene, Bryan (Mary) Brookings of Goldthwaite, and Amy James of Prosper; and his beloved grandchildren, Bryce, Brylee, Grant and Phoebe. He is also survived by his siblings, Bob (Janice) Hatfield of San Angelo, Shari (Allen) Wells of Midland, and Ronnie (Tracie) Hatfield of Sweetwater; his aunt, Glenda (Rubin) Reavis of Midland; his uncle, Jerry Hatfield of Snyder; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Shirley Hatfield.
Larry spent over 40 years as a real estate agent in Midland. In 1985, he was a founding director and served as president of the Midland Young Realtors Association. He served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Permian Basin Board of Realtors and completed two terms as a director. In 2004, he was honored by his peers as Realtor of the Year. In 2010, he was named President of the Permian Basin Board of Realtors. He later served six years on the City of Midland’s Planning and Zoning Commission, where he also acted as Chairperson of the Midland Landscape Committee and Vice Chair of the Sign of Ordinance Committee at the request of the City Council.
Larry and Debbie shared a passion for working side by side in real estate. They cherished time spent at their beloved lake house in Balmorhea, exploring the Big Bend area and antique hunting across the Hill Country. They created a life full of adventure, love and meaningful moments. Larry had a designer’s eye, a sharp sense of style, an incredible sense of humor, and was a true example of a life partner.
