L. C. Gibbs, Jr., 80, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Brother Monroe Teeters, officiating.The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 27 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. He was born on May 14, 1927, in Knott, Texas and married Zelda Mae Riddle on November 12, 1948 in Big Spring, Texas.L.C. had lived in Howard County all his life, except for serving in the United States Air Force during World War II. He owned and operated the Chevron Service Station at 4th and Birdwell for 32 years. He also farmed in the Salem Community, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.He is survived by his wife, Zelda Riddle Gibbs; two sons, L.C. "Trip" Gibbs III and wife, Cheryl of Lake Colorado City, and Paul Gibbs and wife, Rhonda of Midland; eight grandchildren, Kristi Hobbs and husband, Justin of Big Spring, Stacey Gibbs and wife, Shannon of Greenwood, MO, Weldon Gibbs and wife, Francesca of Big Spring, Heather Vaughan and husband, Jeromy of Andrews, Ransom Gibbs and Cadry Gibbs of Midland, and Zach George and Cyndra George of Colorado City; five great-grandchildren and one brother, Charles Ray Gibbs of Royce City. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.C., Sr. and Della Gibbs and sisters, Gladys Sanderson, Inez McLemore, Jewel Fields, Juanita Heflin, Faye Finley, and Clara Ponder.Pallbearers will be Clyde Montgomery, Sammie Buchanan, Ronnie Wood, Ray Walker, Freddy Moran, Wayne Johnke, Tim Cornett, and W.C.
