GOAT taught us more than tennis. I made a life of coaching and wanted to be just like Coach Garlitz. Such great memories of the last few years of us getting together in Midland when I brought my team and sharing old stories and him hanging out and watching and giving coaching tips and most of all telling me how proud he was of me. You were a difference maker Coach in a lot lives Coach . I know your fight for us was not always appreciated because it was not football. Thank you for making a difference in my life.

Coach was the best and coolest coach that kids in Pecos could have. We were kids that were involved in everything and all the sports. He recognized early that to be good he had to start some summer programs and get some kids going before they hit junior high. He was a coach that if you ask him for extra time or to hit with you he would stay or come out extra. If you didn’t have the money for the program it was ok. He would let everyone know about all the tournaments around so you could play and and go he recognized if you didn’t play matches and tournaments , you would not get better. I have told the kids I teach now and that are in my program that I have never paid for a private lesson, but I got a lifetime of them for free from the greatest coach of all time. It was so fun some of my last years at Abilene Wylie that Coach Garlitz would come to the tournament in Midland and spend both days with me and my team. He would give them advice talk to me about what they should be doing and even say things to them after match. And you what, he was always dead on. The biggest thill of all was how proud he was of me and my coaching career and the tears we shed and the memories we share in those weekends. I have shared these stories many times with my kids.and the stories I am still coaching . I owe it to a great man. I played tennis on Scholarship at Abilene Christian University, was a Director of Tennis at Country Club for 17 years, College tennis coach with over 500 wins, High school Coach for 5 years with a record of 137-7, Won 5 A coach of the year. I say this because none of it was possible without a great man I called Coach who we thought was the GOAT and he was. Of course we knew he could beat Jimmy Conners and Stan Smith but you wanted to be in Pecos with great support and endless opportunities. Thank you Coach, you made a difference in a lot of kids lives.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Garlitz family. I had the pleasure of teaching alongside Mr. Garlitz for many years at PBTISD. He was a great teacher and coach and will be greatly missed.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
