Kay Frances Laverne Steward, 82 of Midland Texas, was peacefully whisked away to be in the presence of her LORD, Monday March 8, 2021. Services will be in the Chapel at First Baptist Church Midland at 10:00 am, Friday March 12, 2021. Interment will follow at Belvieu Cemetery in Rotan, Texas at 3:00 pm.
Kay was born in a barn June 4th, 1938 somewhere near Rotan, Texas to Florine and Hollis Swaringin. She grew up and graduated high school in Rotan.
In her early twenties she worked as a telephone operator in Sweetwater. It was during this time she accepted a blind date with a sharp dressed man and married Bud Steward in June 1960. They celebrated 50 years of marriage together. She and Bud were long time members of First Baptist Church Midland. When she could no longer physically attend, she was faithful to watch FBC services on the TV. She loved her family and her mother was her best friend. She bore many titles…daughter, wife, mother; yet her most favorite was MiMi. She loved her grandsons more than words can explain.
Although somewhat reserved, she thrived in connection with her friends. She enjoyed and preferred the unannounced stop-bye at a friend’s house to have a glass of tea and visit. An hours-long telephone conversation to get caught up was an acceptable alternative. Her creative talents included sewing and cooking. Leftovers served on her table were a rare occurrence. She took pride and loved a clean, organized, and pretty home while enjoying listening to country music. She loved the shiny things. Diamonds or some ‘pretty’ knick-knack was her preferred gift of choice.
When life circumstances removed her from her house, she kept a smile on her face. Although she struggled with fear, she trusted in the goodness and power of her LORD. And was comforted in her last weeks of life by saying, “Jesus told me not to be afraid.”
Kay is survived by her brother David Swaringin and sister-in-law Sharon of Arlington, Texas, her daughter Monea and son-in-law Kent Brown of Midland, TX, two grandsons Alex and Aaron, and highly loved nieces and cousins.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dwight, and husband, Wythe B. (Bud) Steward.
Honorary Pallbearers: Ralph Lea, John Quisenberry, David Swaringin, Dwight Swaringin, Alex Brown and Aaron Brown
