Jose Guadalupe “Lupe” Rivera, 82, of Big Spring, died Saturday, September 12, 2015 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be David Rivera, Jr., David Garten, Jr., Mark Hunt, Luis Bella, Edward Urias, and Jerry Watkins.Lupe was born to Manuel Rivera and Maria Rodriguez Rivera in Brownsville, Texas July 17, 1933. He grew up and lived in Lamesa and married Rosa Corpus, December 2, 1951. They moved to Big Spring in 1955. He worked as a custodian for the First United Methodist Church for 47 years as well as for St. Mary’s Church, Hillcrest Baptist Church, the John Deere offices and the Permian Building. He was an active member of the Curisillista, and St. Thomas Catholic Church.Bingo and western cowboy movies were his favorite pass-times.Lupe is survived by his wife, Rosa Rivera; three sons, David Rivera and wife, Mary of Big Spring, Daniel Rivera and wife, Mary of El Paso, and Luis Rivera of Big Spring; two daughters, Delia Garten and husband, David of Odessa and Mary Watkins and husband, Terry of Big Spring; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one brother, Alfredo Rivera of Brownsville; and one brother-in-law, Enrique Corpus of California.He was preceded in death by his parents; an aunt and uncle, Amada and Robert Garcia; one grandson, Christopher Rivera; and three great granddaughters, Selana Jennings, Mallorry York and Harley York.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
