Johnny Guy Morgan was born September 15, 1958 in Fort Sumner, NM to Homer Dale and Helen Shipley Morgan.
On October 20, 2006 Johnny married the love of his life, Teri. Over the course of their 18 year marriage, they endured many ups and downs, but got through it all with faith, love, and their reliance on one another. Johnny often referred to Teri as “The Best Wife Ever”. He was her knight in shinning armor.
Johnny was the only boy in a family of five children. Because of this, he may have been a little spoiled. His sisters describe it as “well taken care of.” When he brought Teri home to meet his family for the first time he told her, “I want you to watch what happens when I rattle my tea glass at dinner.” Sure enough, at the first sign of him needing a refill, one of his three sisters jumped up and refilled the glass. This respect and care for each other ran both ways. He sure loved his sisters and enjoyed telling people how spoiled he was.
Johnny was born in Fort Sumner, NM, and grew up in the country where he learned to rope, ride, and shoot. This is where Johnny’s passion for horses and roping was born. Before he lost his first baby tooth he learned how to drive a vehicle in the cow pasture while his grandfather fed the cattle.
Johnny lived life fully and freely. He loved his family beyond measure and always did whatever was needed to take care of his parents, sisters, and friends. If he called you friend, his loyalty was true and honest. Johnny was a straight shooter and told it like it was, albeit harshly at times. However, once he spoke his mind he would be the first to give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
If you ever roped or worked with Johnny you were sure to receive, at least once, a good chewing out followed by his quick wit and some kind of offering of friendship or love.
Johnny moved to Midland, TX in January of 1978. From that point forward, Midland was his home and where he began his 46 year career in the national elevator industry.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Teri Morgan of the home; bonus son, Derek Brown and wife Jackie of Austin, TX; sisters, Cindy Ridley and husband Dwayne of Melrose, NM, Tracy Roper and husband Chris of Amarillo, TX, Jill Tatum and husband Tedd of Ima, NM; Best Sister-in-law Ever, Lisa Richards and husband Jay of Midland, TX; nephews and nieces: Sunny Hamilton and husband Shawn of Clovis, NM, Karina Roberts and husband Cutter of Melrose, NM, Tyler Tatum and wife Lauren of Ropesville, TX, Kole Tatum and wife Shelby of McAllister, NM, Logan Harris of Lockhart, TX, Dylan Fulton of Midland, TX, and 12 great nieces and nephews.
