Richard was born on December 14, 1950 in Big Spring, TX to DeLavergne and John Riley Walling. Richard came into the world with a loud scream and a sly grin. His quick wit and smart mouth endeared him to his family and friends.
Richard graduated from Coahoma High School where he excelled at baseball and track. He attended Howard College. He was an Army Veteran. He worked in the oilfield safety business. Richard loved his family, fishing, hunting, the outdoors and the Dallas Cowboys.
Richard is survived by his wife Cindy, his son Britt, two daughters, Stacey Welch and Jennifer Smithers and his brother Danny. He has 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by one son, Cedric Smithers, one sister and one brother.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards hospice and friends.
