John Raymond Ticer

John Raymond Ticer of Midland, Texas, passed away on June 30, 2026, following a brief illness. He was born on January 5, 1947, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, to John Quincy Ticer, Jr. and Martha Ellen Coplin, and spent his formative years growing up in Pecos, Texas. He married the love of his life, Deborah Jo Pierce and they shared a devoted daughter, Debi Lynne.

A proud patriot who deeply loved his country, John honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated 28 years to the West Texas oil fields, working for the Texaco Oil Company until his retirement.

In his retirement, John was an avid outdoorsman who loved golfing, fishing, camping, skiing, and skeet shooting. Closer to home, his favorite place was his woodworking shop, affectionately named “The Wrong Side of the Wire.” The shop became the neighborhood cornerstone where lifelong friends (many tracing back to his childhood in Pecos), neighbors, and loved ones gathered to visit, swap stories, and enjoy refreshments.

John’s legacy lives on through his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Jo Ticer; his daughter, Debi Lynne Ticer-Masters, and her husband, Mickey Charles Masters; and his cherished grandsons, Ticer Jarret Masters and Collin James Masters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Travis (Wayne) Ticer, Wesley (Danny) Ticer, and Juanella Burton.
