John David Poe, 72, of Stanton passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in Ruidoso, NM. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Monday, June 4, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stanton. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Rusty O’Donnell, Ryan O’Donnell, Ricky O’Donnell, Hagan O’Donnell, Logan Dunn, Brad Grable, and Ulen North. Honorary pallbearers will be John Boyd, Don Rogers, Alvin Bolton, Byron Hedges, Bud Gillespie, and Teddy Stewart.
David was born July 18, 1945 to John David Poe, Sr. and Eleanor Houston Poe in Stanton, Texas. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stanton and regularly attended St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Midland. His passion was ranching as well as raising and racing his race horses. He was associated with several different Jockey Clubs including the one in Ruidoso, NM. He loved Country Swing Music and could wear the polish off of the dance floor. David was soft hearted and would never pass up the opportunity to help a stranger in need. His humor and laugh would fill any room he was in, and will be missed by everyone that knew him.
David is survived by his sons Rusty O’Donnell and wife Cynthia of Stanton, and Ricky O’Donnell of Stanton; sister Suzanna Poe of Stanton; five grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and great friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John David Poe, Sr. and Eleanor Houston Poe, grandparents, John and Ann Bettie Maude Poe and Alonso R. and Anna Mae Houston, wife Yvonne Poe, and son Robert O’Donnell.
