John Alfred McDiffitt Sr. (Mac), 86 , widower of the late Dovie Laverne Woodrum of Big Spring, Texas, died Thursday, September 28th, 2017 at the loving and caring hospice, Community Living Center, West Texas VA Medical Center in Big Spring. Funeral services were held September 29th, 2017 at Trinity Memorial Park.John was born July 4th, 1931 in Power, West Virginia and raised in Big Run which he referred to as the \homestead\.He was a 1951 graduate of Pine Grove Valley High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force who served from 1952 to 1956, as Corp Engineer. Upon joining, he was stationed at Webb Air Force Base, Big Spring, were he met his future bride, Dovie Laverne Woodrum, in her home town of Midland, Texas. They married August 4th, 1953.He was transferred to Victoria, TX and deployed to Guam, Okinawa Japan, Formosa Taiwan, and served in the Korean War. After the service he continued to work as supervisor in Civil Engineering until his retirement in 1978. Soon after retirement he worked at Forsan Oil Well Service, as a dispatcher for many years. He also volunteered at Big Spring's Veterans Administration Hospital and was a active in the Disable American Veterans for many years. He enjoyed spending time with family and watching the grandkids play video games.He is survived by 4 children: son John A McDiffitt Jr, wife Brenda of Granbury, TX; daughter Joyce O'Rear, husband Mark of Grand Junction, CO; Sonny McDiffitt, wife Sandra of Oklahoma; and daughter Mary Forshee, husband Michael of Big Spring, TX; 9 grandchildren, grandson John A McDiffitt III (Jonnas), wife Jessica; granddaughter Megan McDiffitt Bailey, husband Tyler; granddaughter Jade Jones; grandson Jacob O'Rear; granddaughter Leslie O'Rear; granddaughter Ashli McDiffitt Volker, Husband John; grandson Lee McDiffitt, wife, Jennifer; grandson Justin Forshee, wife Elizabeth; and granddaughter Morgan Forshee , 7 great grandchildren; great grandsons Justin Jr (JJ) Forshee, Kamdyn Riley Volker and Easton Jones; great granddaughters Olivia O'Rear, Carley and Adalynn McDiffitt and one sister, Freda Lee Harris of NC.He was preceded in death by father Peter Virgil McDiffitt, Mother Ida Mabel Willey McDiffitt, 2 sisters Wavalene, and Betty and 7 brothers Everette, Mansel, Larry, Patrick (Pat), Franklin, Mike and Jack.The family suggests memorials to Disabled American Veterans.Arrangements were under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory.
