Joe David Miller, our family cornerstone, passed away of a sudden heart attack on November 20, 2022 at the age of 69 in Ft. Worth, TX. He was born on November 17, 1953 in Odessa, TX. .
During his junior high and high school days, he played football and baseball. After high school, Joe started working in the oil field…working on a pulling unit, a drilling rig, and as a roustabout all the while going to college and paying his way. In 1978, he went to work for Sun Oil. Over the next few years, Joe received many promotions and his career took him to Dallas, Midland, MI, and eventually to Midland, TX. He graduated from UTPB with a degree in Business Management in 1981. In 1993, the family moved back to West Texas and he started his career with Marathon Oil as a Commercial Representative. He took an early retirement and then returned to work a year later with Oxy. His full retirement came in 2019.
Joe and Judy met on a blind date and married in March, 1978. Together they had two children, Jody and Joshua.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judy Porter Miller; his children, Jody Miller Gully and husband Mike, Joshua Miller and his wife Kimberly;
his Mother, Yvonne Miller; his sister, Julie Parnell and her husband Tim; and his Mother-in-law, Jo Porter. He was over the moon about his ten grandchildren,
Ceree and her passion for learning, Alajia and her kind heart, Oshy and her servant spirit, JJ and her love for relationships, Jeniyah and her ability to make everyone laugh, Gigi and her love for watching sports and eating ice cream sandwiches with him, Jude and his adventurous spirit, Camden and his tenderhearted kindness, Beckham and his quirky spunk, and Quinn–Quinnie Cakes was his Mini Jody.
He had many inlaws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and great nephews that he cherished.
He served his community by being one of the most endeared Little League Coaches in Midland. He enjoyed golfing and watching sports.
He was saved and baptized when he was 9 years old at Vacation Bible School. He ministered in several churches through the Adult and Children’s Music Ministry and he taught Children and Youth Sunday School for many years. He was a man of strong faith and his hope was built on Jesus. We are certain he is in the very presence of his Lord.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
