I worked with Joe at Raley's Pharmacy in Winnemucca. In those 2 short years, I felt as if we were more like family. Joe made sure to stop me from whatever I was doing or however busy I was, to listen to his stories. He had some amazing stories and I loved hearing every one of them. He was the first person to understand what I wanted to do with my life and to say that he was proud of me. That meant the world to me. You are all very lucky to have had Joe as a father, grandfather, or even friend. I know that I certainly was!

To the children of Mr. Leonard I was sad to read the passing of your father. I want you to know just how much of an impact he made on my life. Not only did he give me a job cleaning the drug store when I was in high school but most of all he talked to me a lot about what I was going to do when I graduated. See I had wonderful parents too, but they did not go to college. Your father was really the only one I knew at that time in my life who could give me insight about college. I did not go to work at the drug store or visit with your father with the purpose of picking his brain about college; he brought it up to me. As I read his obituary in The Record, I could not help but realize that his work ethic, pleasant personality and willingness to share his college experiences (especially to someone who worked for him only about 2 hours/day) has been with me my entire life. There is no doubt all of you will miss him. Therefore, I want to leave you with one last comment. Even though, I have not seen or talked to your father in almost 40 years, I can still see him behind the drug counter and hear him talk to everybody who came in as if it was yesterday. Therefore, as you go on with your life, rest assured your memory of him will not fade. Good Bless Randel Calaway PS: Several years ago my sister, Carla, took and framed several pictures of C-City for me as a gift. One frame of pictures was of the Colorado Drug Store signs that where outside the building. That set of pictures still hang outside my office today.

I feel such a great sense of loss upon learning of Joe's passing. Another piece of my youth and roots is missing. As a teenager Joe, Mozelle, and Nadine had such an impact on my life while I worked one summer at Colorado Drug. In later years, I would drop in and visit with Joe when I'd be visiting in Colorado City. He was a wise man and I enjoyed his humor. Besides going to school with Gaye, I always had a kind of connection to this family. I'm so proud to have had the privilege of knowing Joe. I'm so sorry for your tremendous loss. May God bless and comfort each one of you in this sad time.

I'm saddened to hear of Joe's passing and for your loss. He was always pleasant and caring. If I did'nt need a perscription filled, i'd make a point of going over to say hi just because he was a great guy. You were certainly lucky to have such a kind and caring father. Pete Barnes

Dear Gaye, Danny and Dawn Etta, I am sorry to hear of your dad's passing away. I will always remember him in his white coat at the Colorado Drug and behind the counter. He would always come out and talk if we saw each other. I will be thinking of you and praying for you during this most difficult time and the days to come. Much love. Lana

How do you sum up the life of such a wonderful Father? I am so honored to have been his daughter. What an impact he had on his grandchildren. His first grandson Kenny was able to have a wonderful talk with him 2 days before his passing still giving advice to him. His first granddaughter Melony whom he called Miss Mel got to see him a week before passing and brought 3 of his great grandchildren. She had questions about life she had not been able to ask and they were answered. I had the privilege to be there when he passed. I love you Dad and miss you so!
