Joe B. Dobbs, 79, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, March 28, 2002, in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 30, 2002, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Chaplain Dean Thomas of the VA Medical Center, officiating, with military rites by Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo. He was born on January 17, 1923 in Copeville, Texas and married Fannie Mae Gordon on January 24, 1972 in Brownfield, Texas. Mr. Dobbs served in the United States Air Force from November 1942 to June 1958. He was a POW in Stalig 17 in Austria for 13 months and 5 days. After his discharge, he sold cars in Sacramento, California and then moved to Carrizozo, New Mexico and worked as a mechanic. In the mid 1970's, he moved to Texas and continued to work as a mechanic until retiring. He then moved to Big Spring in 1984. He was a Methodist, active with the ex-POW organization and had volunteered at the VA Medical Center since 1987. Survivors include his wife, Fannie Mae Dobbs of Big Spring; one step-daughter, Patsy Dobbs and her husband, Wayland, of Carrizozo, New Mexico; four grandchildren, Carrie Spencer of Carrizozo, New Mexico, Wayland Dobbs, Jr. of Cherokee, Gayann Parker of Big Spring and Patrick Dobbs of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Frankie Calley and her husband, Jim, of Levelland; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, John Dobbs, three brothers, and three sisters.
