JoAnn Bowen, 65, of Midland has gone to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, November 5, 2011, after a lengthy illness. She was born on December 8, 1945 to the late Spike and Zip Whiteside in Wayne, Michigan. She married Ronnie Bowen on June 1, 1963. They enjoyed 48 years together.JoAnn was a homemaker and wonderful mother of two. In 1966, she became a member of the Salvation Army Church. From 1966 through 2011, she was enrolled as Home League (Women's Ministry) member, bonded as Home League Record Sergeant, Home League Visitors Secretary, and Sunday School Teacher for elementary age classes and Community Care Ministry Secretary. Also during this time period, she was enrolled as Senior Soldier of The Salvation Army and appointed to The Salvation Army Midland Corps Council (church board). She became a SA soldier on July 25, 1999. JoAnn also served as committee chairperson for the Girl Guards and Sunbeams programs, disaster services, vacation Bible school, and Christmas programs and participated in Sunday programs while volunteering the Salvation Army church. She did volunteer work with the "Dress a Live Doll" program, her favorite, and League of Mercy. She was also a member of the Tall City Road Riders group. JoAnn was an active bowler in the Ladies Bowling League since the 1960's.JoAnn was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by husband Ronnie Bowen of Midland; daughter Tammie Tidwell and husband Danny of Sonora; son J. Ron Bowen and wife Brenda of Midland; brother Kenneth Whiteside of Nevada; sister-in-law Judy Siefker and husband Jim of Midland; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Salvation Army Church, 3500 Park Lane, Midland with Captain Tex Ellis, Jr., officiating.In lieu of flowers, JoAnn requested donations be made to the Salvation Army.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
