It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan (Pauline) Shannon, a beloved educator, entrepreneur, mentor, and friend, at her home in Midland, TX on November 22, 2025 at the age of 82.
Born on December 2, 1942 in Bon Carbo, Colorado, Joan attended school at Sopris. After the closing of the school, she transferred to Trinidad High where she graduated in 1960.
In 1963, Joan enlisted in the US Navy where she served 3 years as a secretary to an admiral in Quonset Pt, RI. On the weekends, she enjoyed trips to the beach with friends. She truly loved the opportunity to travel all while serving our country.
Once discharged from the Navy, Joan dedicated her life to inspiring and shaping the minds of countless students throughout the years as an English teacher at Primero High School. Whenever Joan could, she would take her coveted gambling trips with family or friends to Cripple Creek, CO.
In 1972, Weston Supply was acquired by her sister and brother-in-law, which she helped and later purchased. She diligently made her famous breakfast burritos until she sold the store in 2018.
After retiring, Joan moved to Midland, TX where she absolutely loved the heat. (Which we all knew she was always cold.) She spent time with her nephew Ryan, wife Tina, and boys Ty and Cole Chavez. She started attending the senior center and enjoyed playing bingo.
Joan is survived by her sister Edna Jimenez of Roswell, NM., as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who will forever cherish her memory. She is preceded in death by her mother and father Andrea and Paul Shannon of Bon Carbo, CO along with numerous brothers, sisters, in laws and extended family.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 10 am at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Midland, TX with burial and military honors to follow in
Abilene, TX at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 3 pm.
“Their legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew them.”
