It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Jimmy Wayne Newby (70) on June 16, 2025 at the hospital in Dallas, Texas after weeks of attempting recovery from a major heart attack.
He was born in Kermit, Texas on August 16, 1954 to Charles and June Newby (deceased) and spent most of his life in West Texas. Jim grew up in Monahans, Texas and in Midland, with his grandmother Laura D. Phillips, a special woman he cherished all of her life and all of his life.
In his early twenties he began his car business and named it Quality Auto Company located at 209 and 211 West Florida in Midland, where he owned and operated it for more than 28 years. Jim made good friends and developed lifelong relationships with his colleagues, bankers and customers during this time.
He loved the real estate business as well and owned many commercial and residential properties. Being a skilled negotiator and entrepreneur, he grew a fine portfolio of rental holdings in Midland and Ft. Stockton. Around 2007 he and his wife opened The Neon Palm, an entertainment gaming establishment also located on Florida Street.
In 2008, Jim moved to Ft. Stockton, Texas, where, for a few years, he maintained a smaller version of Quality Auto Company. It was at this same time that he purchased properties that would later become another Neon Palm and eventually a new endeavor, Hilltop RV Park on Interstate 20. Hilltop RV began as essentially a bare and beautiful location overlooking seven miles of valley to the West of the city. Unafraid of hard work, he built the home he and his wife loved and then went on to create a large RV business of hospitality, fabulous views, unequaled sunsets and comfortable accommodations for travelers seeking rest after a long day on the road. Many unforgettable relationships were forged, and many cherished memories are still held in our hearts today for that special spot in the universe. In 2020, with the purchase of a beautiful mountain home in Ruidoso, Jim and KC enjoyed their frequent escapes to the tall pines of New Mexico to enjoy the climate and precious moments with family and friends. In 2022, Hilltop was passed along to new owners and Jim returned to Midland where he resided for the remainder of his life.
Jim was truly a man who understood the art of deal making. His compassion ran deep, his strength was unwavering and his love for family and friends, profound.
Jim is survived by his wife of 23 years, KC Newby, his daughter Theresa Reeves (Tommy) and his only son Jimmy W. Newby, Jr., along with five treasured grandchildren, as well as his brother Joe Pittsford (Diana) of New Jersey.
Graveside services will take place at Resthaven Cemetery, 4616 North Big Spring Street in Midland, Texas at 3:00 PM on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
