Jimmy Lee Powell
1970-2021
Having fought the good fight and finished his race, Jimmy Lee Powell
entered into eternal rest on November 12, 2021. Though his family mourns
his departure, they rejoice in the knowledge that he joins his Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ free of pain and released from earthly suffering. Jimmy
fought a year-long battle with colon cancer with his beloved wife of 27
years, Becky, and his sons, Aspen and Evan, by his side.
The couple lost their 14-year-old son, Gage Marvin Powell, in October
- The family can only imagine the beautiful heavenly reunion of father
and son.
Jimmy was born September 24, 1970 in Colorado City, Texas. He attended
school in Snyder, Texas, before moving to Abilene, Texas, where he
graduated from Abilene High School in 1989.
Jimmy met the love of his life, Becky Gregory, in 1993 and the two were
married on July 16, 1994 at Lighthouse Assembly of God in Snyder. They
moved to Midland in 1995 and started a family.
Jimmy worked in the oilfield industry for much of his life, but it was driving a
truck that was truly his passion. He opened AGE Trucking, named for his
sons, in 2015.
Jimmy and Becky joined Elevate Church in Midland, Texas, in 2019 where
he served as an usher and enjoyed fellowship with his church family.
Having played in his youth, Jimmy loved football. He was a fan of the
Houston Texans and Texas Longhorns.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Becky Powell, and two sons, Aspen Powell
and Evan Powell, all of Midland. Other survivors include his mother and stepfather, Ginger and Charlie
Spriggs of Iowa Park, Texas, and his brother and sister-in-law, Clinton and
Stacy Lambert of Olney, Texas, and nephews Rhett, Roy and Raden.
He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Marty and Benita
Hammond of San Marcos and brother-in-law Corven Hammond; his
sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mindy and Erik Hanson of Midland and
niece Zoe Garcia; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Matt and Amy
Hammond of Seguin, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Randi and
Ryan Braziel of Snyder and nephews Branson and Jaden.
He is also survived by his aunts Tommie Chaney, Nell Compton, Nora
Tolson, Patsy Collins, Penny Simmons, Helen Simmons and Vicky Davis.
His uncles Jerry Simmons and Jack Simmons.
