Although I cannot be there in person ; I would like to thank all members of the church and especially Jordy , Sheldon, and of course Jeri ( an angel from heaven) . Only those who have taken care of a person with major health issues for long periods of time can appreciate the sacrifices she has made. I met Jim 40 years ago when first he worked for me in the recovery business. His industry friends could relate hundreds of stories as to his fearlessness and talent in regard to investigating and problem solving skills. Jim saved many bankers careers by finding and recovering thousands of lost cars but I would like to state that what defines Jim Douglas started a few years ago when bad luck landed on his health. Jim called me one afternoon and tearfully told me that the doctor was going to cut off his leg. I replied ( in shock) that I would be there the next morning. When I walked into the hospital room , there he was with the love of his life minus one leg. He was smiling as he greeted me and began immediately telling me of his plan. Millard ; “ I am going to sell my repo business , buy a van and start my own locksmith business. “ ( mind you he just lost his leg a couple of hours earlier) . He went on to laughing , joking and telling stories . Most of us would have been scared and depressed but not our Jimbo. One month later he showed up with Jeri driving his van and him on crutches. “ Do you need any keys made today?” I paged my office manager and gave her instructions that all keys needed go to Jim. That is the way he lived his life. Within six months he had a new leg and fifty clients all over Houston . God ( who always has a purpose) gave Jim lemons and he turned it into lemonade. Years later his eyes began to fail but he never complained or said one bad word. He finally could not see to make keys and Jeri made the decision to get closer to her family who loved them both very much. With Sheldon’s help they moved to Midland : Jim and I spoke almost everyday. I do not know how he stayed so positive but he told me he enjoyed talking to Jordy daily , listening to audio books and listening to his beloved Astros on the radio. He also continued to learn history on podcasts. Lexie( whoever that is) also became his close friend. I was trilled a few months ago when he advised me he had found Jesus again . His immediate family , your church family , his recovery family, all can find joy and peace in my friend ‘s full lived life. I talked to him for an hour ; two hours before he died. He was sitting up in bed laughing about how he lost his call button and used his skills by calling the hospital switchboard to get a nurse at 2 Am . I have never heard him any more positive and happy. Thank you all for loving and caring for him and please take special care of the person he loved most. Millard Land
