He was born on June 2, 1944, in Big Spring, Tx. to RL D Myrick & Delma Irene Digby. Jerry was a lifetime resident of Big Spring and the youngest of four. He was a 13A10 Cannoneer and a Sharpshooter/Marksman (M-14 rifle) in the United States Army National Guard. After his service, he worked various jobs including Zales, Cabot, Long John Silvers and OIL until landing a career with the United States Postal Service as a mail processing clerk. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2019 after over 37 years.
He was an avid bowler for many years, coached his son and daughter’s sports teams when they were younger and umpired softball and baseball at the local sports complex. He coordinated the building of Christmas parade floats and started a Halloween walk through at the Post Office for the community to enjoy a safe place to trick or treat as well as participated in the bicentennial program for Big Spring. Jerry was big on community and helped wherever he could by giving of his time and talents. He enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Laughlin, Hobbs and Winstar to try and win that ever elusive big jackpot. Meeting up with friends at the local gas station to buy scratch off tickets was a great pastime. He called his three great grandchildren, ‘my girls’ and they stole his heart right from the start. Jerry’s love and generosity for family and community was apparent in everything he did and he will be truly missed.
