Six decades ago, Mr. Moreland was my sixth grade teacher at Burnet Elementary. I had so much respect for him. A few decades ago, I got in e-touch with him; I was grateful that I got a chance to tell him how much I appreciated his work with kiddos and that, even after all these years, he still was very much remembered. As a retired teacher myself, I am so grateful for teachers like him. Cass Ray swim2race@aol.com Denali National Park, Alaska

Shirley & John said YES when I asked them to drive Meals-on-Wheels for St Luke's for the month of May one year. Following the month of service they volunteered to take a weekly route for several years. To John and Shirley thank you for helping Midland's elderly with nutrition. So sorry to hear that John has passed away. I started my education career at Austin Freshman School with John as the Counselor. He was a dear friend of mine and helped me develop professionally. I eventually moved on to administration in other districts, but never forgot him or his guidance. Please accept my condolences.

My heart goes out to John’s family. I have know Shirley and John for over forty years and worked with them both. John always had a good story to tell when you gathered together. One afternoon I stopped by their house and found John working on a project on his back porch. Before long I joined in and helped him complete the project and again he told me story after story. He was a fellow counselor with me so we sat through many long meets. John will leave a big hole that only memories will fill.

Our deepest sympathies to all the Moreland family! We were sad to hear of Mr. Moreland’s passing. My family (Emma and Jack Curry) were friends from the time the children were very young. What a sweet family they were. And John was a wonderful teacher! We pray for comfort and peace for all who loved him and his family!

Shirley, We were so sorry to learn of John’s death from Alison Peeler. You two were a testament to caring—for others and each other. John said he didn’t cross paths with John at Fannin or MHS, but those who did were lucky. We’re glad you are in Lubbock with family, and send all of you our condolences. Iris Foster
