Jeanne Ellen (Swanson) Beach passed away December 26, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held on January 3, 2021 at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church.
Jeanne was born August 11, 1930 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Edythe and Carl Swanson. At one month old, Jeanne’s family made a brief move to Midland where they lived on ‘D’ Street. ‘D’ Street was the last residential street in Midland in 1930. Soon after the family moved to Tyler, where they lived for a few years. Jeanne spent the next ten years of her childhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma before finally moving to Dallas, Texas.
Jeanne attended the University of Oklahoma, where she met “Mr. Right”. She married William N. (Bill) Beach December 22, 1950 and they were happily married for 56 years before his passing. They had six children together, and the first five were born within seven years of each other. The last was born five years later.
Bill’s career as a geological engineer kept him away from home and in the field for many years. As a result, Jeanne was tasked with raising their six young children on her own while Bill worked hard to establish the family business.
Despite having little extra time on her hands, Jeanne enjoyed volunteering for PTA programs and she served as City Council PTA President. She was honored with a Lifetime PTA Membership. Jeanne was instrumental in the establishment of the Midland Symphony Guild and served in many capacities within the organization. She also found great satisfaction in her service as a Pink Lady at Midland Memorial Hospital and as a member of the Hospital Auxiliary.
Traveling in later life was a great joy for Jeanne and Bill. They loved their annual visits to Pagosa Springs, Colorado and Rockport, Texas as well as the wonderful friendships they made during their stays. Family and friends were frequent visitors during their annual treks. Jeanne always enjoyed an opportunity to travel which earned her the nickname, “JeanneGo”.
Jeanne enjoyed bridge and was an accomplished card player, she also loved reading and spent many of her later years absorbed in a variety of her favorite books. Bible study was also an important part of her life. She could often be found studying with a group or on her own. She had a strong faith and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Midland.
Jeanne was proceeded in death by her parents, Carl and Edythe Swanson, her husband, William N. (Bill) Beach, her brother, Rudy Swanson, sister, Gloria Nelson, and her beloved housekeeper, Elzoria Johnson.
